In little over one week the City of Litchfield’s Lake Lou Yaeger, has partnered with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary to bring the “About Boating Safely” class to Litchfield, Illinois. The City has just been notified by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will also be doing FREE vessel safety checks for those who are interested! The vessel check requires pre-registration so a time can be coordinated and class will be held Saturday, April 27 from 9 AM to 6 PM at Lake Lou Yaeger’s Milnot Beach House (4932 Beach House Trail). The vessel check is a FREE service. The Coast Guard Auxiliary will go through their check list and notify you of any concerns that may need to be addressed to ensure your vessel is as safe as possible. The “About Boating Safely” class will cover the following topics: Introduction to Boating, Boating Law, Boat Safety Equipment, Safe Boating, Navigation, Boating Problems, Trailering, Storing, and Protecting Your Boat. This course is a beginning boating class that will give students the knowledge they need to obtain a boat license or safety certification in the State of Illinois and many others. This course satisfies the Illinois requirement for a boating safety education course required for those born after Jan. 1, 1998, which is needed to legally operate a boat. After passing the exam at the end of the course, participants will receive a card and a certificate. This course is available to individuals of all skill levels, and participants do not need to own a boat to take this seminar-based class. There is a $25 registration fee to cover course materials provided by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. Participants are asked to bring a sack lunch. Pre-registration is required for this course. This program is suited for individuals of a variety of ages, however students must be at least 10 years of age in order to participate. To register please contact Eric Lamb, Lake Superintendent, at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 217-324-5832. HAVE A YAEGER DAY!
