Maeystown Old Fashioned German Christmas 2019



  Maeystown Old Fashioned German Christmas 2019   Historic Maeystown will host the annual Old Fashioned German Christmas on Sunday, December 1, from 11:00-4:30 p.m.  Recently featured in the Christmas edition of Early American Life magazine, the Old Fashioned Christmas centers on the celebration of Maeystown's German heritage through German Christmas customs.   A Weihnachtshaustour from 11:30-3:30 will feature three of Maeystown's oldest houses.   Tickets for the house tour are $5.00 each and will be available for purchase at the Maeystown General Store on the day of the tour.  All proceeds from the house tour will be given to a local charity.   Other featured events are the Christkindlmarkt in the St John Church Hall from 11:00-4:00, hammered dulcimer music in the Mill Museum from 11:00-4:30,  story time with Frau Kringle at the Mill from 11:30-3:30, a quilt show in the St John Church Sanctuary from 12:00-4:00, the Morgan Family performing Christmas favorites from 12:30-2:00 in the Corner George Inn ballroom, complimentary carriage rides through town from 1:00-3:00 with boarding at the Maeystown General Store, the annual German Christmas Carol Sing from 2:15-3:15 in the Corner George Inn ballroom, strolling holiday music by the Band Room Brass from 2:30-4:30, and the lighting of the village Weihnachtsbaum and traditional carol sing at the Mill at 4:15 p.m.   Other activities throughout the day will include “A Taste of Christmas” dessert sampling by the Women's Club in the basement of the Mill Museum, woodcarver/artisan Wayne Laramore in the Mill, Sankt Nikolaus strolling through the village, ten minute chair massages at Katzenjammers,  a Victorian sleigh on display and available for Christmas photos in front of the Mill,  artisan Sally Durrer teaching German paper star and tree folding at the Mill, a display of German paper stars on a feather tree and a sassafras wrapped Christmas tree at the Mill,  and children are invited to make a Lebkuchenherzen (gingerbread heart) ornament in the Mill.   In addition, Hank and Lilly's Creekside will be offering Weihnacht stew, Glühwein, and a full menu, the Maeystown General Store will offer private label food samplings and shopping,  there will be sweet treats at the Sweet Shoppe, holiday seasoned kettle corn will be available outside the Mill,  and additional shopping for antiques and more will be available at Georgia Mae's Antiques and Katzenjammers.   For more information visit www.maeystown.com or call 618-580-5875.  The Old Fashioned German Christmas is sponsored by Historic Maeystown.   Marcia Braswell [email protected] 618-581-6163
