The McKendree MetroRecPlex is a new, full-service, state-of-the-art sports complex. The complex offers two NHL-sized ice rinks, an aquatic center fit with a 10 lane championship swimming pool, a contemporary fitness area and many other amenities. Memberships and daily passes can be purchased for use of the facility and all its features.

The legendary entertainer, Burl Ives, is buried in Mound Cemetery in Newton, near where he was born. A beautifully carved granite monument is erected to mark his grave. Ives will always be remembered for voicing Sam the Snowman.

Exhibits at the Foundation House Museum feature artifacts from the 177-year-old village’s history, including an examining room from the last medical doctor to practice in the village. A wedding bedroom features an antique bed and chest as well as a wedding dress from the 1940s. The museum also features special programs and exhibits. Open the first Sunday of each month from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. or by special request for families and other groups.

This museum is located at the west edge of Oblong and is one of only 7 such facilities in the nation. Featured are displays, tools, books, and a full library of petrology related literature, working models and photos unique to oil production in the area. A grouping of oilfield equipment which dates from early 1900, during the boom days of oil discovery in Crawford County, is displayed outside the museum. Our comfortable 12-bed retreat center offers the opportunity to create, relax, enjoy meals, and learn and laugh with friends. We’ve sought to provide your own personal space to sew, quilt or scrapbook so that you can relax and enjoy your passion.
The retreat center has four bedrooms – two with two twin beds and two have four twin beds. To ensure your comfort, we make each bed with clean fresh sheets, two pillows and either a soft cuddly blanket or a synthetic down comforter. Fresh towels – bath, hand and washcloth – are also provided for use in any of the four showers.
Our retreat center boasts two separate sewing areas. The west Studio accommodates six people with six individual six-foot tables, a custom 4’x8’ cutting table and two big boards with Rowenta irons. The east side Gathering Room can seat twelve for sewing/scrapbooking and also has two ironing and two cutting stations. All cutting and pressing stations have been elevated to countertop height to make it less stressful on your back and the pneumatic adjustable swivel chairs make sewing a pleasure. There are large design walls and plenty of electrical outlets. Free wireless internet is available in all locations.

Situated on a farm settled by the proprietors great-grandmother, the vineyard sits amid low rolling hills. Enjoy sampling the wines and spending some quality time in the country.
A private cabin with all the amenities is available when hunting for trophy whitetail deer and eastern wild turkey.
A wide variety of fish draw anglers for sport fishing and tournaments. About five miles of trails are behind the dam, and the White Squirrel Saddles Club has an arena here. They host events and have open horse shows, sanctioned events and conduct a Gaitway to Motion program.
Located just off the National Road near the Covered Bridge, the winery is surrounded by 4,000 French-American hybrid grapevines. The comfortable tasting room welcomes guests to settle in for a while.
Find exhibits related to the National Road, Abraham Lincoln, county founders and favorite sons, Jerry & Dick VanDyke. There’s also a tribute to veterans in the War Room. Wed. – Sat. 11am – 3:30pm.
