The McKendree MetroRecPlex is a new, full-service, state-of-the-art sports complex. The complex offers two NHL-sized ice rinks, an aquatic center fit with a 10 lane championship swimming pool, a contemporary fitness area and many other amenities. Memberships and daily passes can be purchased for use of the facility and all its features.

This 19-mile asphalt/oil & chip trail offers spectacular views of the Mississippi River and Clark Bridge while running along the river and canal, from Russel Commons Park in Alton to 20th Street in Granite City.
Locks 26 and 27 are the largest locks in the inland waterway system. Lock 26 in Alton has a visitor’s center with river displays. Lock 27 located in Granite City is the only lock on the 8.4 mile, man made canal and is the most southerly located.

This 158-year-old home has displays of Civil War artifacts, an Indian collection, and 1830’s furnishings.
This bridge is one of the world’s longest pedestrian/bicycle bridges and offers commanding views of the Mississippi River and a great perch for American Eagle watching. Years ago the bridge became very popular as the Route 66 bridge with a 45 degree right curve in the middle. The Bridge is the site of Eagle Days in January and other events.
The 1836 Weir House is filled with an amazing display of artifacts representing local and county history with the recent addition of a historic research library.

Connects Illinois and Missouri by Route 66
Speed thrills at Gateway Motorsports Park! This flexible venue features regular activities on the 1/4 mile drag strip, 1.25 oval track, road racing course, Gateway Karting facility and so much more! A huge event schedule in 2017 includes the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in June, Indy Car in August and NHRA Midwest Nationals in September.
Find camping, fishing, picnic areas, playgrounds, volleyball and over three miles of hiking trails. Controlled hunting, including pheasant is allowed at specific times of the year.
Four baseball/softball diamonds, five soccer fields or two football fields are featured. There is also a basketball court, skate park, concessions stand and a 2.7 mile walking trail.
Regular events including UMP Late Models, UMP Modifieds, Sportsman, Street Stocks and Factory Stocks are held on the 1/4 mi oval. Special events like the World of Outlaw Sprint Cars are on the 1/2 Mile Track.
A variety of “prototype spirits” are made here including vodka, moonshine, whiskey, gin and rum. Tours of the facility are an interesting way to see how it’s all done. Don’t miss the retail area and tasting room (21+ only to taste or buy alcohol). Make your tour reservation in advance Thursday – Saturday noon – 8 pm.
The seven-mile trail runs from Chain of Rocks Road south to the southernmost tip of the Island.
