100 YEAR ANNIVERSAY OF FORT DE CHARTRES AS A STATE PARK AND REDEDICATION OF BRONZE PLAQUE PRESENTED TO FORT DE CHARTRES ON OCT 10 1919 BY ILLINOIS CHAPTER OF COLONIAL DAMES.
Sat. Oct. 5th 2019
10 am till 4 pm
There will be a rededication ceremony of the plaque being presented to the State, 1920’s era music, an antique automobile demonstration, a collection of vintage material, photos and documents from the first 100 years of the park’s history will be on display and reenactors dressed in early 20th century clothing.
Although there were efforts to purchase and restore the site of Fort de Chartres as early as 1911 the property wasn’t purchased by the State of Illinois until the years of 1914 and 1915 in two separate transactions. Work was done in the following years to prepare the site to be opened but the best documentable date for the site being open as a State Park is Oct. 1919 when a bronze plaque was dedicated and placed on the powder magazine.
