The Weingarten is located in Belleville, Illinois and is a great stop for any wine enthusiasts. With many wines to choose from and a full menu, guest can sit, relax and enjoy a serene atmosphere. They host several events throughout the year and offer wine and beer tastings during the day until 6:00PM.
The name “Weingarten” comes from the German heritage of the grounds it sits on. The land was once used as farmland for the Wilderman family. The family came from Germany in 1805 and soon became one of the most prominent families in the area. The property was developed, owned and operated by family members Shannon and Jeff Gastreich and Kevin Bollman. Al three are natives of southern Illinois. They always wanted a place that celebrated the area’s German heritage while remaining rustic and in tune with nature. The grounds of the Weingarten feature an original stave silo, outdoor seating, pond, walking trail and more.
The Weingarten carries 6 signature wines as well as premium wines and beers from around the world. They have over 25 wines at a time so there is something to please any palate. Their most popular red wine is the Kügar, which is light-bodied and dry. If you are looking for a great white wine make sure to try the semi-dry Couzin Frankie or the semi-sweet Vergnügen or Spotted Chihuahua. If you only like sweet wines you must grab a bottle of BelleVegas or Twister, for home.
The menu at the Weingarten features shared plates, salads, wraps and sandwiches, and pizza. If you are looking for something to have while spending time with friends, make sure to get an order of their Homemade Spinach Artichoke Dip. It comes with toasted naan flatbread. You can also get the spinach dip in Rangoon form served with Tai chili dipping sauce. The Chicken Salad Wrap is a Weingarten favorite made with dried cranberries and candied walnuts served in a spinach-herb wrap. Get it with a side of Tomato and Gouda Bisque for a great fresh meal. Another great menu option is the “Your Mom” Flatbread which has a sun-dried tomato pesto sauce, diced chicken, goat cheese, chopped tomato and black olives, drizzled with their house-made alfredo sauce. Don’t forget to save room for the Salted Carmel Vanilla Cake.
Looking for a unique spot for your next event or wedding? The Weingarten offers beautiful forests, cornfields and a lake for a truly memorizing view for any outdoor event. The ceremony site features mature trees, a paved aisle, and a white wedding arbor. You can even request a horse-drawn carriage for the bride’s grand entrance. The reception venue is at the Garden Tent and features concrete flooring and a view of the entire facility. If you are looking for other spaces for your event, make sure to check out the Party Barn, adjacent to the Tasting Room, for a rustic feel with a private outdoor area for your guests.
The owners aren’t done with the Weingarten just yet. They plan on growing over the next several years to build cabins, shops, an outdoor concert area and more space for events.
