All across our 22 counties, you’ll find festive concerts, theater and other live performances perfect for ushering in the holiday season. Fill your ILLINOISouth adventure with celebrations ranging from a capella concerts to theatrical productions this year as you celebrate fun, family and community.

Take a look at some of ILLINOISouth’s most anticipated art and theater events happening this holiday season:

The Wee Heavies in Concert | December 3

McKendree University welcomes The Wee Heavies in concert on December 3. A night of acapella Celtic music from this quartet is just what you need to begin your holiday season festivities.

The St. Louis-based Wee Heavies blend Scottish, Irish and American folk music that combines tradition with innovation. You won’t hear anything like them elsewhere!

Master’s Voice Choir Annual Christmas Concert | December 5 & 6

Join the Master’s Voice Choir for their annual Christmas concert this year at First United Presbyterian Church in Granite City, IL. Free of charge, the Master’s Voice Choir only asks for freewill donations.

Bronze Expressions Holiday Handbells Concert | December 7

Come hear the sounds of our Bronze Expressions Handbell Ensemble at their concert, Repeat the Sounding Joy, on December 7 at 4 pm. The concert will take place in the Gallery of the Centralia Cultural Society.

“A Christmas Carol” by Granite City High School | December 5, 6, 7 & 8

Re-discover the true meaning of Christmas when you join GCHS for their annual production of “A Christmas Carol.” Granite City High School Theater and Performing Arts will lift your holiday spirits with their 13th annual production. Bring the whole family, and make sure to purchase tickets in advance.

“Frozen” by Alfresco Productions | December 6, 7, 8, 13 & 14

Alfresco Productions presents Disney’s “Frozen” on stage this holiday season. Grab your tickets for a great show that the whole family can enjoy. Don’t miss your chance to see “Frozen” during your holiday adventure in ILLINOISouth!

“Christmas Ancient and New” by A Masterworks Holiday Concert | December 8

Southern Illinois’ most beautiful holiday concert, featuring a candlelight procession and your favorite carols. Celebrate the holidays with Masterworks Chorale, Children’s Chorus and Orchestra on your next adventure in ILLINOISouth.

The Glory of Christmas | December 8 & 9

The musical drama includes 200 people encompassing choir, orchestra, drama troupe, horse drawn sleigh & parade of the wooden soldiers. Free will offering. Music Ministry at St. Matthew United Methodist church, Open to the Public.

“A Christmas Carol” by A Looking Glass Playhouse | December 12, 13, 14 & 15

A Looking Glass Playhouse tradition, the theater will perform Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” on stage this year from December 12-15. Tickets to this beautiful performance are only $5 and are available online for your purchase.

Getting in the Christmas Mood | December 13 & 14

Join First Baptist Church O’Fallon for an original, family-friendly night of music that combines the power of a 90+ member choir with the energy of Big Band music. With carefully selected Christmas classics to bring out your childhood memories, a mix of musical styles and spectacular production value, we guarantee you’ll want to make “Getting in the Christmas Mood” part of your yearly holiday traditions.

In addition to FBCO’s Christmas choir and big band, the concert will feature the award-winning drumline and color guard from O’Fallon, IL Township High School.

Three presentations: Dec. 13 at 7pm and Dec. 14 at 3pm and 7pm.

The Nutcracker by The Hett & State Street Dance Company | December 13 & 14

The Hett and State Street Dance Company proudly present “The Nutcracker,” a timeless holiday classic. Bring your whole family along for this magical performance!

All events are open to the public and held at the 488-seat performing arts center at McKendree University. Ticket prices range from $5 for children to $38 for adults, with discounts for students and seniors. But, many programs are free.

The Russel E. and Fern M. Hettenhausen Center for the Arts — “The Hett” — is Southern Illinois’ premier performing arts venue, presenting world class dance, drama, classical music and jazz.

Christmas Carol Play by Flora Community Development Corporation | December 14

Join local students as they perform the Christmas Carol Play, written by Sheila Laughton. Adapted from the Classic Story by Charles Dickens and production in arrangement with The Man in the Moon. Tickets are $8.00 for adults. $5.00 for students and under 4 is free.

Event is hosted by the Flora Community Development Corporation, and proceeds benefit the beautiful historic Depot. Tickets available at the Flora Chamber of Commerce (located in the Depot), Flora area banks and at the door.

Metro East Community Chorale’s Christmas Concert | December 15

Metro East Community Chorale performs its annual Christmas Concert on Sunday, December 15at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Belleville. The concert includes spiritual/gospel music, Christmas carols and holiday favorites with an orchestra accompaniment. Ms. Carol Brookshier provides piano accompaniment, and Stephen Wilson directs the Chorale.

Christmas Wonders Concert | December 15

Ring in the season with annual holiday Chorale concert with chamber orchestra music by the Philharmonic Chorale & Orchestra held at St. Luke’s Church.
