The home was built in 1855 by the Hasken family until 1886 when the Cohen family took over ownership. The home was always lived in by a member of the Cohen family and stayed that way until 1983 when the youngest son, Bud, passed away. After that time the city of Chester took it over and began operating it with a committee of volunteers.

Features of the Home

The home sits on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River. This allows for amazing views to and from the house. It has always been a visible landmark from land and river because of its unusual blue storm windows. It is rumored that Mark Twain referred to the Cohen Home as “the house with blue windows” as he traveled on the Mississippi.
The home contains some original pieces in the second-floor bedrooms. The main floor parlors include tables and chairs so the house can be utilized for meetings and gatherings.
